Conscious relates to awareness about mind, body and soul. Learning to leaving a conscious life is essential to happy, successful life. America is a young yet great nation largely due to its great emphasize on the conscious living. This is a nation that ensures that every citizen has right to life, justice and pursuit of happiness. It gives enormous freedom to choose. We all have this precious right to choose and be responsible for the choices we make. Weather it is our professional life or marital, we all make choices everyday. Where we are is the collective sum of all the choices we have made in our life. This is great revelation for those who seek self empowerment to lift their lives to higher awareness. Conscious life depends less on the emotions and more on the purpose. Life revolving around emotions seeks pleasure and instant gratification which sometimes requires living beyond means. Life revolving around purpose seeks greater awareness and focus to attract actions that shape its destiny. Conscious life makes choices with analytical mind, with awareness of pros and cons. This allows mind to stay focus on the purpose. Conscious life seeks responsibility due to the fact that its focused approach to dissect the pros and cons of the decision enables it to be prepared to respond to an outcome not desired.

First step to live conscious life is to know and clearly define the purpose. Purpose becomes the goal that guides the choices. We hear a great deal about the sub-prime lending that has made economists nervous. Politicians are blaming mortgage companies for lending to those who can not afford to pay their mortgages. If we introspect the issue from the conscious life perspective, it is rather clear that those who borrowed money knew clearly that they were buying home larger than they can afford. No matter what was offered by the lenders, ultimately the decision was made by those home owners to buy what potentially could be hard to afford. Conscious borrower would first define his/her need for the housing and he/she will seek only what he/she can afford. Even if lender offers larger loan, his/her conscious mind would analyze the liability and understand the potential pitfalls that may follow. Conscious borrower never pass the buck on others due to his/her awareness of the personal responsibility of his/her own actions. Clearly knowing what you want is the hallmark of conscious living. Learn to write down your needs clearly and make sure that though awareness you do not allow your “wants” to influence your true “needs”.

Second step in conscious living is the action.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover

Write clearly what you want. Use your broader need to guide your action plan. Conscious life seeks actions that take you closer to you goals and aware you if you drift away from your goals. If your goal is to purchase your first home, with conscious living, you will clearly define your need and constantly work on saving enough money for the down payment. Even if lenders advertise no down payment mortgages, through higher awareness, you will choose to save enough so that you can afford the mortgage payment that is predictable over the course of the loan. As disastrous it is to get emotional to purchase a house you can not afford, it is equally disastrous to always shy away from the thoughts of buying a home to avoid financial problems down the road. Conscious life seeks action with known risks. Risk is born with us the day we are born in this world. Manageable risk mitigates fear and worries and allows you to live life of freedom.Taking responsibility and deep desire to overcome challenges makes conscious life.

Last but not least step to conscious life is the will power. Conscious living knows no defeat. Will power perpetuates our subconscious mind to focus like a laser beam on the greater purpose. Theodore Roosevelt was a sickly individual for most of his adult life yet he is considered one of the bravest presidents that shape moral and unique character of America. He always showed courage in the face of challenges. He showed us all how to stay focus on the purpose and keep going without ever thinking to quit. I would like to close this article with a great passage from the President Teddy Roosevelt.

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.
