“What if…?”, “How will …?”,”Who will …?”, “Where will…?”, “When will…?” These are the five principle questions that lead people to fret and worry. Worry creates a mental block that hinders brain faculty to think creatively. Worry often drains energy and emotional afflictions that ends up weakening immune system.

When we worry it is because we predict outcome of an event that is not desirable yet we feel incapable of changing that outcome. Think over this powerful truth and you will realize that most people worry about things that are beyond their control. Then questions arise as to why we worry about something that we can not control ? Simple answer is that we allow our mind to attach an expected outcome which we consider favorable. Truth is that it is always extremely difficult to predict what is favorable ? What seems to be a favorable outcome may in fact not be so favorable. Our mind processes the chain of events based on the collective experience and perception that lies only in our mind. If we start to learn how to detach this perceived outcome from our mind than we can lead life of peace and learn to stop worrying.

A king lost his finger in an accident. A minister told the king that loosing finger was a fine thing that happened to the king. Feeling mad at his remarks, king fired the minister. He espoused same words again. Few years later, on his hunting trip, king was captured by cannibals. They were about to fry him in a pot when they suddenly noticed that he has a finger missing. An incomplete human being was unacceptable to the gods, so they release him. What king considered a horrible comment turned out to be accurate. Upon his return, king reinstated the minister and asked him why he thought it was good that I fired you ? Minister immediately pointed out that if he worked for the king, he would have likely accompanied king during the hunting trip and he would have been killed since he had a complete body. What an enlightening example of what we think at a given time may or may not be the best outcome for the fact that we can not predict the future.

Karma as explained in Hindu epic Gita means a focused, purpose driven action with faith in god or universe to deliver the best even if it does not seem the best outcome at a given time. Our aim shall be to live today trying to improve over yesterday. That’s all best we can do. Why worry about what we can not control ? Why impair our life and let negative emotions render paraplegic state of our most precious mind ? The crucial thing to remember is that in life there are no wars to be won - only battles to be fought - personal, physical, psychological and spiritual. Keep unwavering faith in the universe. Universal power will always fight with you but not for you.

The best approach is to know exactly what we desire of life and prepare plan that supports our desires and keep acting on the plan until we achieve our targets. All we can do is to predict with the best of our ability but we shall not allow actual outcome to influence our mind to change course of action. We control actions and not outcome. We shall focus on what we can control and not on what we can not control. Once we master this essential skill, we set our mind free of shackles of worry.
